DURHAM, N.C. — Mark Williams dunked in Paolo Banchero’s missed drive with 0.4 seconds left to help ninth-ranked Duke beat Wake Forest 76-74 on Tuesday night, capping a wild game that saw Blue Devils Hall of Famer Mike Krzyzewski not coach after halftime because the team said he was “not feeling well.”
The drama carried to the final possession as Wake Forest had only a desperate chance. Domari Monsanto took the inbounds pass and heaved a one-handed throw to the far end that appeared to be a bit late with the ball hitting the glass then bouncing off the rim before falling away.
That ended an eventful night in famously rowdy Cameron Indoor Stadium, which started when Krzyzewski — who is retiring after this season — wasn’t with the team as it returned to the court from the locker room after halftime. The team’s official Twitter account later posted that Krzyzewski wouldn’t return, and no other details were immediately available.
Associate head coach Jon Scheyer, who has been designated as the 75-year-old Krzyzewski’s successor for next season, took over as the teams began second-half play. Scheyer had also coached the team in Duke’s win at Wake Forest last month with Krzyzewski out due to an illness.
(18) OHIO STATE 70, MINNESOTA 45: E.J. Liddell had 16 points and 10 rebounds, leading the Buckeyes (16-6, 9-4 Big Ten) to a win over the Gophers (12-11, 3-11) in Columbus, Ohio.
Malaki Branham added 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting for the Buckeyes.
Luke Loewe scored 12 points to lead Minnesota. Jamison Battle added 11 points.
PENN STATE 62, (19) MICHIGAN STATE 58: Seth Lundy hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:37 remaining and finished with 17 points as the Nittany Lions (10-12, 5-9) Big Ten beat the Spartans (18-7, 9-5) in State College, Pennsylvania.
John Harrar had 16 points and 16 rebounds, and Jalen Pickett added 10 points for the Nittany Lions, who beat a ranked team for the first time under first-year coach Micah Shrewsberry.
(20) TEXAS 80, OKLAHOMA 78: Timmy Allen and Andrew Jones each scored 20 points to help the Longhorns (19-7, 8-5 Big 12) defeat the Sooners (14-12, 4-9) in overtime in Norman, Oklahoma.
Marcus Carr and Christian Bishop each scored 16 points for the Longhorns. Texas also beat Oklahoma 66-52 on Jan. 11.
Elijah Harkless scored 19 points and Jordan Goldwire added 18 points for the Sooners, who have lost five of six.
COLBY-SAWYER 94, ST. JOSEPH’S 83: Dylan Santosuosso scored 23 points and Scott Lampron added 21 as the Chargers (8-13, 5-10 GNAC) beat the Monks (7-16, 6-9) in Standish.
Omar Boone added 17 points and eight rebounds for Colby-Sawyer. Connor Kelly had 10 points.
Nicholas Curtis scored a game-high 27 points for St. Joseph’s. Griffin Foley added 16 points and six rebounds. Julian Llopiz also had 13 points and eight rebounds.
BAYLOR: Big man Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua had surgery Tuesday to repair multiple ligaments in his left knee from a gruesome injury that ended his season for the seventh-ranked and reigning national champion Bears.
Tchamwa Tchatchoua, the junior forward known as “Everyday Jon” for his consistent high-energy approach in games and practices, got hurt without any contact in the first half of Baylor’s 80-63 win over No. 20 Texas on Saturday. The 6-foot-8, 245-pound Cameroon-born player was going down the court after a missed shot by the Bears when his left leg turned awkwardly and he crumbled to the floor in obvious pain.
PHIL KNIGHT TOURNAMENTS: Gonzaga and Duke are among 24 men’s and women’s programs that will take part in a pair of tournaments in Portland, Oregon, honoring Nike cofounder Phil Knight in November.
The fields for the 2022 Phil Knight Invitational and the Phil Knight Legacy tournaments to be played over Thanksgiving weekend were announced Tuesday.
The overall event is reminiscent of the Phil Knight Invitational in 2017 but now includes a women’s bracket. The NCAA caps multiple-team events at eight teams, so each tournament will include eight men’s and four women’s teams.
The Phil Knight Legacy tournament will include Duke, Florida, Gonzaga, Oregon State, Portland State, Purdue, West Virginia and Xavier on the men’s side, and Duke, Iowa, Oregon State and UConn on the women’s.
The Phil Knight Invitational tournament includes Alabama, Iowa State, Michigan State, North Carolina, Oregon, Portland, UConn and Villanova on the men’s side and Iowa State, Michigan State, North Carolina and Oregon on the women’s.

ST. JOSEPH’S 86, COLBY-SAWYER 41: Cassandra Stapelfeld scored 16 of her 19 points in the first half as the Monks (19-4, 13-2 GNAC) took a 30-point halftime lead and cruised past the Chargers (2-17, 2-11) in Standish.
Angelica Hurley had 18 points for St. Joseph’s, while Hailey Anderson added 15.
Megan Molettierri had 16 points for Colby-Sawyer.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
BOSTON UNIVERSITY 3, MAINE 2: Lacey Martin scored 1:03 into the overtime session as the Terriers (12-13-5, 11-8-4 Hockey East) beat the Black Bears (12-18-1, 10-13-1) in Boston.
Morgan Trimper gave Maine the lead 3:28 into the game and Elise Morphy made it 2-0 early in the second period. Clare O’Leary and Courtney Correia scored in the third period for BU to force overtime.
Jorden Mattison had 37 saves for the Black Bears, while Kate Stuart recorded 22 saves for the Terriers.
AMHERST 5, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 0: The Mammoths (11-8-1) scored four times in the third period and cruised to a win over the Nor’easters (8-11-2) in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Kenzie MacDonald scored the first of her two goals in the second to give Amherst a 1-0 lead. She added a goal in the third period, along with Ellie DeCarlo, Alyssa Xu and Stephanie Nomicos.
Caitlin Walker made seven saves for Amherst, while Kaleight Laurendeau had 49 for UNE.
MEN’S HOCKEY
UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 5, ENDICOTT 4: Jake Fuss had two goals and an assist as the Nor’easters (16-3-1, 15-3-1, CCC) beat the Gulls (16-6-1, 13-5-1) in Biddeford.
Chris Jones, Austin Morgan and Tyler Seltenreich each had a goal for UNE. Billy Girard racked up 27 saves.
Zach Mazur opened the scoring for Endicott. Andre Kurapov and Kevin Craig scored in the second period. Cam Speck added a goal in the final minute. Conor O’Brien made 23 saves.
