Behind 26 points from Trevor Brown and 19 from Patrick McKenney, fourth-seeded Medomak Valley rolled to a 60-47 win over fifth-seeded Lisbon in a Class B South boys’ basketball quarterfinal Friday night at the Portland Expo.

Medomak Valley (16-4) advances to a semifinal at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Expo against No. 9 Maranacook or No. 1 Spruce Mountain.

The Panthers used their superior quickness and strength to gain control early, racing to an 18-5 lead after a quarter. Lisbon (15-4) got no closer than 10 the rest of the way, with the lead peaking at 49-23 late in the third quarter.

Medomak had 15 steals, compared to four for Lisbon, and outrebounded the Greyhounds, 31-21.

Lisbon was led by Mason Booker with 20 points. Charlie Doyle and Caden Boone each scored 11.

MARANACOOK 38, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 31: Chris Reid scored 18 points, and the ninth-seeded Black Bears (10-8) used a 16-6 advantage in the fourth quarter to upset the No. 1 Phoenix (17-1) in a Class B South quarterfinal.

Lucas Towers led Spruce Mountain with nine points. High-scoring freshman point guard Jace Bessey was held to five points.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

GARDINER 50, MT. BLUE 29: Lizzy Gruber scored her team’s first 14 points and finished with 23 as the second-seeded Tigers (17-2) beat the seventh-seeded Cougars (8-12) in a Class A North quarterfinal at the Augusta Civic Center.

Gruber also grabbed 19 rebounds, helping Gardiner advance to a semifinal against No. 3 Lawrence.

Gruber accounted for most of the offense in the first half, scoring 18 points as Gardiner opened a 25-8 advantage. The Tigers ended the half with an 11-0 run, sparked by an Emily Grady 3-pointer.

Eva Stevens led Mt. Blue with 10 points.

LAWRENCE 43, MESSALONSKEE 38: Hope Bouchard scored 16 points, and the third-seeded Bulldogs (16-3) snapped out of a shooting slump with seven 3-pointers in a Class A North quarterfinal win over the No. 6 Eagles (5-14).

Lawrence led 22-20 at halftime, and back-to-back three pointers by Emily Hagerty midway through the third quarter extended the lead to nine.

Messalonskee sophomore Brennan Doran finished with 20 points. Her buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter put the Eagles ahead 15-14.

ERSKINE ACADEMY 45, CONY 37: The fourth-seeded Eagles (10-8) held No. 5 Cony (10-8) scoreless for more than 10 minutes in the second half on the way to a Class A North quarterfinal victory.

Erskine trailed 26-23 at halftime by allowed only four baskets in the second half – two each by Kristen Kirk and Sage Fortin.

Mackenzie Roderick paced the Eagles with 20 points, and Emily Clark added 10.

Cony got 12 points from Kirk, 11 from Alyssa Redmond and nine from Fortin.

SKOWHEGAN 76, BREWER 26: Jaycie Christopher scored all but two of her 24 points during a dominant first half as the top-seeded River Hawks (19-0) routed the No. 8 Witches (6-14) in a Class A North quarterfinal.

Maddie Morris added 18 points and Annabelle Morris scored 12 for Skowhegan, which led 53-11 at halftime.

MT. DESERT ISLAND 46, ELLSWORTH 28: Mollie Gray dropped in 19 points as the third-seeded Trojans (16-4) handled the sixth-seeded Eagles (12-8) in a Class B North quarterfinal at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Olivia Gray added seven points for MDI, which moves on to face No. 2 Hermon on Wednesday.

Morgan Clifford led Ellsworth with nine points. Abby Radel scored seven.

HERMON 58, MCI 30: Elizabeth Wyman scored 14 points to lead the second-seeded Hawks (17-2) to a Class North quarterfinal victory over the seventh-seeded Huskies (11-9) at Bangor’s Cross Insurance Center.

Maddie Lebel added 10 points for Hermon.

Anna Dospelova and Danielle Dow led MCI with seven points apiece.
