PITTSFIELD — A Pittsfield man is dead after a 12-hour standoff Friday ended with an armed confrontation with state police officers, Maine State Police said.
Local police were initially called to the Detroit Road home for a report of a domestic disturbance with shots fired, police said.
Maine State Police were called to the residence at 8 a.m. Friday to assist the Pittsfield Police Department and the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office on scene.
Gregory L. Lasselle, 27, of Pittsfield, died after an armed confrontation with Maine State Police troopers Cpl. Paul Casey and Sgt. J.B. MacDonald that ended a 12-hour standoff where police attempted to persuade Lasselle to surrender.
“The Maine State Police Tactical Team and the Maine State Police Crisis Negotiation Team responded to assist,” Maine State Police Public Information Officer Shannon Moss said in an email statement early Saturday morning.
Both troopers are on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in all deadly force incidents involving law enforcement, Moss said.
The cause and manner of Lasselle’s death is under investigation by the Office of the Maine Attorney General and the Maine State Police are cooperating in the investigation. Moss directed questions to the Attorney General’s office, which is closed on Saturday and could not immediately be reached for comment.
