As a Vietnam vet, I find it unbelievable that Maine Veterans’ Homes wants to close the Caribou and Machias Veterans’ Homes because of a lack of staff and patients.

There are only six Maine Veterans’ Homes in the state and they want to close two of them? How shortsighted! There are plenty of veterans who are going to need to fill those empty beds in time to come, including Vietnam vets, like myself, and veterans who have fought in wars in the Middle East and all the other conflicts we have been in.

With all the millions of dollars floating around this state, from COVID and staffing issues that will resolve themselves as COVID declines, we can keep both of these vital homes operating.

Please immediately contact state and federal senators and representatives to make sure this never happens. Time is short.
