Ukraine, a fledgling democracy, is being crushed on live TV along with the self-determination of 44 million people. Children, innocents and soldiers are being killed. A nuclear power plant has been attacked and nuclear attacks on NATO have been threatened by Russia. This is an emergency of the highest order.

Are we funding Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war by importing Russian oil? We must stop immediately, regardless of the effect on prices here. Money is the fuel that Putin needs and it must be shut off in every possible way.

The U.S. should increase sanctions so that they are crushing and complete. To avoid a larger, hot war we must act now. Waiting to see if our current, partial sanctions are working is immoral and unwise. Waiting does not stop the dictator but allows peace and freedom in Europe to become less certain.

I don’t want one penny to support Putin’s brutal and unprovoked conquest, not one. If, at this perilous time, the United States cannot sacrifice with higher energy costs, and our leaders are not condemning the invasion loudly and continuously, we are letting the world down.
