Southern Maine Community is hosting an in-person open house on Saturday, April 9 where students and their families can learn about academic programs, meet faculty and staff, and tour the college’s ocean-side South Portland campus.

The event provides prospective students and those who have already been accepted an opportunity to learn more about the college and its offerings. Hundreds of students and parents are expected.

“We are excited that we are able to offer people an in-person open house again for the first time since 2019,” said Amy Lee, assistant dean of enrollment, in an March 7 news release. “There is nothing like being on campus and meeting faculty and staff face-to-face to appreciate the college experience and make connections.”

Interested persons can pre-register and reserve a space online on Southern Maine Community College’s open house webpage. The open house runs from 9 a.m. to noon in the HUB Athletic Center on the South Portland campus.

Visitors will learn about academic programs, meet with faculty and staff, hear from the SMCC admissions team, learn how to apply, and tour the campus and residence halls.

Southern Maine Community College has more than 40 degree and certificate programs, as well as a variety of noncredit classes and workforce training opportunities.

Sebago Technics hires environmental services manager

Sebago Technics, a Maine-based, creative engineering collective, announced the hiring of Cole Peters as environmental services manager in a March 7 news release.

Peters joined the Sebago team in February 2022 as environmental services manager. According to the news release, “He is a well-recognized, experienced, environmental professional who has had his own firms and worked for large national and regional consulting firms. Cole is a certified geologist and professional wetlands scientist. He is experienced in large-scale environmental projects, including utility corridors and projects, wind/solar power development, highway projects, wetlands delineations/mitigation, commercial projects, etc. Cole has a great understanding and reputation in many facets of environmental permitting and will be a great resource to Sebago Technics’ project teams and clients.”

According to Sebago Technics, Cole will oversee environmental services including wetlands/vernal pools delineations, environmental site assessments, soils analyses and related work. He will also serve as liaison/strategist for strategic environmental permitting with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Federal Environmental Protection Agency and Army Corps of Engineers.

Peters graduated with a master’s degree in geology from the University of Rhode Island and is a resident of Cape Elizabeth.
