Nomination papers for public office available

Nomination papers to fill positions on the Bridgton Select Board, the Water Board and the School Board are available. The terms of Glenn Zaidman (Select Board), Debra Albert (School Board) and Wesley Gorman (Water Board) all expire this year.

Nomination forms are available at the Town Office and require at least 25 and no more than 100 valid signatures of registered voters to get the nominee’s name on the ballot. The deadline for filing completed forms with the Town Office is April 15. Elections are June 14. For further information, call the Town Office at 647-8786.

St. Patrick’s Day supper

Everyone is invited to wear green and celebrate St. Paddy’s Day with a corned beef supper and all the fixings – including pies – at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at the South Bridgton Congregational Church, 16 Fosterville Road (off Route 107). Enjoy good fellowship, delicious food and Irish music afterward. Tickets for the meal are $12 per person. To reserve a seat, call Shirley at 647-1218.

Learn about loons

A virtual online program about loon monitoring and raft building will be hosted by the Lakes Environmental Association and Maine Lakes at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, and at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 24. The same information will be covered both times. The Zoom link will be emailed to interested parties 24 hours before the program.

Mary Jewett will give a virtual presentation at 5 p.m. on Big Night, Thursday, March 17, when salamanders and other crawly critters come out and make their way to vernal pools to start their springtime activities.

LEA is also hiring for various positions and offering a number of internships. For more information about all of these opportunities, check the LEA website at mainelakes.org.

Glover Award deadline extended

The deadline to nominate someone for the Al Glover Award, sponsored by the Bridgton Lions Club, has been extended to Friday, March 18. The award honors an individual who has made significant contributions to and served a local nonprofit organization that benefits the greater Bridgton area. The award recipient will be honored with a dinner in May and the organization they serve will receive $1,000 to use in honor of their nominee. Nonprofits are encouraged to send nominations to Bridgton Lions Club, Al Glover Award Committee, P.O. Box 103, Bridgton, ME 04009, or email cwttwo@outlook.com before March 18.
