Celebration is the word for all of the activities around Maine maple syrup. Maine is the third-largest producer of maple syrup in the country and Maine Maple Sunday Weekend March 26-27 is crammed with sweetness at sugarhouses offering samples, demonstrations, games, tours, music and more.

Food and other news

The School House 1913 has reopened for the season with Sunday Brunch  and, beginning March 18, dinner service on Friday and Saturday nights. As always reservations are recommended at 295-2029. It also has a new spring menu at SchoolHouse1913.com. 506 Harpswell Neck Road, Harpswell.

The Butchers and Bakers is now open in Tontine Mall, 149 Maine St., Brunswick. They offer hand-butchered meats and gluten-free bakeries along with café items including sandwiches, soups, salads, teas, ciders, wine and coffees. Open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day; closed Wednesday. theButchersandBakers.com.

Many thanks to Christian Hayes, chef and owner of the Garrison in Yarmouth, who is cooking and providing aid at the Ukrainian border with World Central Kitchen by feeding refugees hot, nutritious meals. Here at home, the Garrison will be open and raising money to support World Central Kitchen.
