We live in Scarborough, and we love where we live because of the gorgeous, one-of-a-kind landscape that surrounds us.

The Scarborough Land Trust is a conservation nonprofit that manages over 1,600 acres alone or in partnership with other property owners and trusts. From Broadturn Farm to the Libby River Farm Preserve, these lands cover the town’s meadows, streams, woods and marshes.

Warren Woods Preserve joined the Trust in 2012, a donation from Elaine Stimson Warren’s family after her death. These special wetland woods and meadows are home to wild cranberries, blueberries and native orchids. We were delighted to learn last month that SLT has acquired another 70 acres and more to add to preserve. This new parcel, across Payne Rd. from the existing trails, will protect another stretch of the Nonesuch River, a life source for local wildlife and migratory birds.

Julia and I are longtime supporters of SLT and for 2022, we have pledged $250 of every transaction we complete in Scarborough to the land trust. We depend on their work and the work of every hard-working, local land trust in our state to protect the natural habitats of our precious wildlife and plant species.

Visit scarboroughlandtrust.org learn more about how you can support their work and to find a trail. The birds are chirping, the trees are budding, and the water is flowing, so don’t forget your boots!
