Fire seriously damaged a home in Biddeford on Saturday as firefighters from six towns battled the blaze in intense summer heat.

The residents of 19 Sevigny Ave. reported the fire shortly before 11 a.m., after they arrived home to find their house in flames, Biddeford Fire Lt. Steven Kiesman said.

Firefighters worked for three hours with temperatures in the 80s, taking turns to avoid dehydration and heat exhaustion, but still one firefighter required medical treatment, Kiesman said.

The residents likely will have to find shelter elsewhere because the house was heavily damaged by fire, smoke and water, Kiesman said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
