A pedestrian was struck on Route 1 near the Howard Johnson’s on Saturday afternoon and sustained minor injuries, police said.

The teenage girl was hit crossing the roadway by a vehicle leaving the Mobile Mart. She was transported to Maine Medical Center with minor injuries, South Portland Police Sgt. John Sutton said.

Sutton said a combination of vehicles stopped for the girl and waved for her to cross. At the same time, the driver of the vehicle pulling out of the Mobile Mart thought they were being waved out onto the road – and could not see the pedestrian.

“The pedestrian was in a blind spot unfortunately,” Sutton said.

No charges were filed.
