Kennebunk Free Library announced its next Speers Gallery exhibit, Peace of My Mind, by Madeleine P. Hopkins, opening Monday, Aug. 1. The exhibit is a visual memoir of her art and prose, and consists of 33 landscape paintings or prints coupled with the written word. Hopkins uses a combination of oil, acrylic, watercolor and pastel.

The public is invited to attend an artist reception on Wednesday, Aug. 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. Masks are required.

Hopkins was born in Philadelphia, grew up in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, and moved to southern Maine in 1987. She is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design with a bachelor of fine arts in illustration and has worked as an illustrator, painter, interior designer, gallery owner/manager, architectural designer and she is also a self-published author.

Her paintings hang in several public and private collections, including Barn Gallery/Ogunquit Art Association in Ogunquit, Hole in the Wall Studioworks in Raymond, Maine, and Roux & Cyr International Gallery in Portland. Hopkins lives in southern Maine with her husband, Chris.

The public is invited to view the exhibit in the library’s Speers Gallery Aug. 1-31 at 112 Main St., Kennebunk, during regular library hours when the gallery is not in use for library programs. For information about library hours and gallery access, visit www.kennebunklibrary.org.
