Aaron Schunk hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Hartford Yard Goats rallied to a 7-5 win over the Portland Sea Dogs in an Eastern League game on Saturday in Hartford, Connecticut.

Portland had taken a 5-3 lead in the top of the 10th on a two-run home run by Hudson Potts, but the Yard Goats rallied with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Kyle Datres started the rally against Sea Dogs reliever Ryan Fernandez with an RBI single. Grant Lavigne followed with a single before Schunk ended it, snapping the Sea Dogs’ three-game winning streak.

Potts also had an RBI double and Christian Koss had a two-run home run for Portland.

Isaac Collins had an RBI single in the fifth and Datres a solo home run in the sixth as Hartford rallied to tie it at 3-3.

NECBL: Bryce Afthim pitched a seven-hitter and the visiting Sanford Mainers launched four home runs against the Vermont Mountaineers for a 6-0 win in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game in Montpelier, Vermont.

Afthim struck out five and walked none, while reducing his season ERA to 1.01.

Quinn McDaniel and Jake Rainess each hit solo homers in the first, Calvin Hewett homered in the third, and Alex Knapp hit a two-run homer in the fifth. David Bermudez hit a RBI double in the eighth.

Sanford will complete its regular-season schedule at home against Keene Sunday at 2 p.m.

LITTLE LEAGUE: Bangor beat Augusta 10-0 in four innings to win the 10-12-year-old Little League Baseball state tournament in Augusta.

BASKETBALL

WNBA: Breanna Stewart made four free throws in the final 12 seconds and finished with 18 points, Tina Charles scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Seattle used a big second-half run to beat the Mystics 82-77 in Washington on Saturday and clinch a berth in the WNBA playoffs.

Seattle (19-11), which had lost three of its previous four games, took sole possession of fourth in the league standings – a game ahead of the fifth-place Mystics and 11/2 games behind No. 3 Connecticut with about two weeks before the postseason begins. The Storm have won the first two games of their three-game regular season series with Washington, which wraps up when the teams meet again Sunday.

• Kayla Thornton scored a career-high 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting, Teaira McCowan added 14 points and 14 rebounds and the Dallas Wings beat Atlanta 81-68 in College Park, Georgia.

Arike Ogunbowale added 21 points, eight assists and five steals for the Wings.

AUTO RACING

NASCAR XFINITY: AJ Allmendinger continued his dominance of NASCAR road course racing and set himself up for a sweep at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a victory in the Xfinity Series.

Allmendinger has won six of the last 11 road course races – nine in his NASCAR career – and his latest victory is his third of the Xfinity season.

All three wins are on road courses this year as Allmendinger already won at Circuit of the Americas in Texas and Portland, and now the hallowed Brickyard.

INDYCAR: Alexander Rossi snapped a 49-race losing streak that dated all the way back to the 2019 IndyCar season by winning at one of his favorite tracks.

Rossi won on the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where his 2016 victory in the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 jumpstarted his American motorsports career. Rossi’s last victory was at Road America in the 10th race of the 2019 season.

FORMULA ONE: George Russell won his first career Formula One pole with a fast final qualifying lap at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest, Hungary.

It gave Mercedes its first pole of the season on the same day reigning F1 champion and current points leader Max Verstappen lost power and qualified a season-worst 10th.

Russell screamed in celebration after beating Ferrari drivers Carlos Sainz Jr. and Charles Leclerc to grab the first pole of his career.

GOLF

PGA TOUR: Tony Finau shot a 7-under 65 to match Taylor Pendrith at 21-under 195 with a round left in the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit.

The 3M Open winner last week in Minnesota, Finau is trying to become the first to win consecutive regular-season tournaments in three years.

A stroke a ahead entering the round, Pendrith birdied four of the last five holes for a 66.

Rookie of the year front-runner Cameron Young (65) was four strokes back. He matched the Detroit Golf Club record with a 63 on Friday.

LIV: Henrik Stenson overcame a double bogey on his third hole with a long eagle putt and enough birdies for a 2-under 69 at windy Trump National Bedminster and a three-shot lead over Dustin Johnson in the LIV Golf Invitational in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Two weeks ago, Stenson had just missed the cut in the British Open and was still the Ryder Cup captain for Europe. Now the 46-year-old Swede is 18 holes away from a $4 million prize, more than double the biggest check of his career.

He was at 9-under 133, as only 13 players from the 48-man field remained under par.

Johnson has hit the ball consistently well for two days at Trump National and got enough putts to fall for a 69, leaving him three back and in the final group with Stenson.

Talor Gooch had the best round by three shots, a 64 that moved him into a tie for third at 5 under along with Patrick Reed (73) and Carlos Ortiz (70).

LPGA: Lydia Ko was joined by Celine Boutier at the top of the leaderboard after day three of the Women’s Scottish Open in Irvine, Scotland.

France’s Boutier shot a 5-under-par 67 – five birdies on the front nine – to make up four shots on the New Zealander, who could manage only a 1-under 71.

Canada’s Maude-Aimee Leblanc started and finished with birdies for a 66 which lifted her to second place alongside Germany’s Leonie Harm on 14 under, one shot off the lead.

EUROPEAN TOUR: Sean Crocker’s chip-in eagle on the par-5 18th hole gave him a two-stroke lead headed into the final round at the Hero Open in St. Andrews, Scotland.

The American, bidding for his first European tour title, finished at 3-under 69 on Saturday to keep Jens Dantorp of Sweden two shots behind after three rounds at Fairmont St. Andrews.

SOCCER

MLS: Djordje Petrovic made three saves for the New England Revolution and Alex Bono had two saves for Toronto in a 0-0 draw in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Toronto (6-12-5) outshot the Revolution (6-7-9) 15-13, with three shots on goal compared to New England’s two.

BUDESLIGA: Borussia Dortmund striker Sébastien Haller needs chemotherapy treatment because his testicular tumor was found to be malignant, the club said Saturday.

The club said Haller will miss “several months” but that it will not be releasing any further medical information on the player’s condition.

The 28-year-old Haller joined Dortmund from Ajax for $31.5 million on July 6 but had to leave a preseason training camp 12 days later for treatment and an operation after the tumor was found.

BOXING

FIGHT CANCELED: Jake Paul’s boxing match at Madison Square Garden next week has been canceled after his promotional team said opponent Hasim Rahman Jr. did not intend to honor the contracted weight limit.

Most Valuable Promotions said that Rahman had signed a contract July 5 to weigh a maximum of 200 pounds. However, it said in a statement that a weight check Friday showed that he had only lost one pound since weighing 216 then and that the New York State Athletic Commission said it would not sanction the bout at less than 205 pounds.
