The Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center and The Climate Initiative are hosting “Celebration of New Mainers & Climate Action” from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, in Congress Square Park in Portland.
The organizations want to bring attention to climate change, immigration and their intersectionality in Maine and globally through the event. Keynote speakers, the Maine Marimba Ensemble and other performances in conjunction with First Friday Art Walk will be featured.
“Many immigrants come to Maine due to displacement issues related to climate change and while Maine is a new home, it’s important to realize we are still facing climate challenges here that need our attention,” said Reza Jalali, executive director of The Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center.
