I have nothing against our Scarborough library or the approximately 27 percent of residents who use it. I also don’t disagree that the library could perhaps use more space. Who couldn’t use more space, even as a homeowner?

But this proposed library expansion, at nearly three times the size it is now, is extremely excessive. This expansion would make the library larger than our Town Hall.

Some residents are saying: It’s way too big; not many people use it; they should clean out old stuff; they want to add on that much to the library when there’s kids sitting in over 30 portables, and who goes to the library? They are concerned about the faltering economy, ongoing pandemic, struggles to pay for huge increases in oil, food, medical care, gas, electricity and more. Plus, with rising interest rates, this expansion will cost almost as much in interest as the bond itself!

Vote “no”!
