I was shocked and pleasantly surprised to read the column about Republican Paul LePage as the antithesis of Democrat Janet Mills (Maine Voices, Oct. 21).

This woman listened to the advice of a questionable man, with dubious credentials, to support policies that shut down many of the schools in Maine for more than a year. She should have done her homework to know that COVID would not harm or kill all Maine’s schoolchildren.

What is killing them is her public policies. Children were left for more than a year without any peers, hardly any education and some without food, as many children get their only meals in school. The skyrocketing number of children with mental health issues can thank her for her lockdowns, which served no purpose.

Believe me, there are thousands of Mainers who believe she failed miserably, and I hope they all let their voices be heard.
