Portland synth-rock band John Hughes Band released its debut album in 2016, then a follow-up a few years later.

The band, fronted by singer Sean Slaughter, is back with a single released yesterday called “Outsail The Sea.”

It was mixed by Jon Wyman and mastered by Katie Gilchrest.

“Outsail The Sea” was written by Matt Zimmerman and is a moody tune with an ’80s feel which comes as no surprise as the band’s name is an homage to the kinds of songs late director John Hughes would use in his films.

Slaughter wrote, directed and edited the video, and it features harvest moon footage of Scarborough Beach and scenes shot on a sailboat called “Polaris,” which brings to mind Duran Duran’s iconic “Rio.”

The band has finished recording its next album and is hoping for a release date around Thanksgiving.
