I was beyond aghast to see Rep. Chellie Pingree’s name on the “Progressive Caucus” letter that was widely viewed as calling for an adjustment of President Biden’s support for Ukraine. Whatever the intention, the letter was substantively vacuous, ill-advised and horribly timed. One of her colleagues called the letter “an olive branch to a war criminal.” I’ve supported Ms. Pingree in the past, but this was beyond foolish.

My grandfather emigrated from Zhytomyr in Ukraine, a city currently without water or power following Russian missile attacks. Perhaps Ms. Pingree and her colleagues should spend a week there and then see what kind of letter they wish to write.
