Today I purchased 23 cards, two for family birthdays that are coming up and the others filled with Thanksgiving wishes. I hadn’t really planned on buying so many “turkey texts,” but the illustrations, the colors and the well wishes were just irresistible. Have you noticed that about Thanksgiving cards? Of all the seasonal cards, they’re the best. They’re my favorites! The vibrant yellows and oranges, all the little critters, some with Pilgrim hats, love ‘em … And the reminders to “count your blessings.” Yup, they warm my heart.

My children and grandchildren get these “blessing” reminders throughout the year, but especially at Thanksgiving. “Counting your blessings” is always a good thing. Giving thanks for a hot cup of coffee in the early morning, for time to sit under a maple tree with a good book, for a warm shower at the end of a busy day, for an email from an old friend from far away just to stay connected, for a kiss on the cheek from a spouse who’s headed out the door. Blessings, every one.

Even with all the not-so-good stuff in the world, we all can be grateful. We will find what we look for. Goodness and beauty can be sought. Happiness and contentment can be chosen. On this Thanksgiving, have a thankful heart … and look up. All good things come from above.
