I’m happy that the City of Portland has given back to our residents our public sidewalks and peace and quiet. We can now walk down our sidewalks and not have to navigate around tables and chairs in front of restaurants and bars, which is especially hard for disabled people in motorized wheelchairs, among others. We also don’t have to listen to loud people and music piped outside until, sometimes, 1 a.m.

The City of Portland must please remember that there are residences within earshot of many of these places. Most people have to work in the morning and need to sleep without this racket.

The city should keep our residents in mind next year before they give any permissions for outside bar and restaurant seating on our public properties. Portland residents are the ones who pay taxes to the city and vote and therefore should have a say in this matter.
