Scarborough senior Daisy Stone, joined by family and teammates, signs her National Letter of Intent Tuesday to attend and play field hockey at Assumption University in Worcester, Massachusetts. Stone, an All-SMAA and all-state selection after scoring 18 goals this fall, said that she was considering several schools but that Assumption stood out.

“I love the coach and the players and they have my perfect major,” said Stone, who plans to study occupational therapy. “It’s very exciting to have everyone here today.”

Stone will join fellow Mainers Kiki Jackson of Biddeford, Taylor Tory of Cheverus and Belle Hemond of Mt. Ararat at Assumption.

“It’s nice to know going in that I’ll have people that I know and that I’ll have friends there,” said Stone.

Longtime Scarborough coach Kerry Mariello, who has sent scores of players on to compete at the next level, said that Stone will be a force in college.

“Daisy has tall stature, covers a lot of space, knows how to find the goal and she’s hungry,” said Mariello. “She’s aggressive and works hard and I have no doubt she’ll continue to do what she’s done (in high school). She’s a great kid and a great teammate and I’m excited to see her move on.”
