Jon M. Delano

PORTLAND – Jon M. Delano, 78, of Portland, passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 14, 2022 with his wife by his side.

Jon was born on June 15, 1944, in Portland, the son of Harold F. and E. Mazelle Tousant Delano. He was the youngest of nine brothers and raised in South Portland where he would work for 46 years for the City’s Public Works Department.

On Aug. 21, 1965, Jon married the love of his life Jacquie. They had one son who Jon proudly named after himself. He enjoyed coaching his son’s Little League team in Portland and participating in several bowling leagues. Later in life, Jon enjoyed providing leadership to his Shuffleboard friends in La Casa.

Jon was a loving “Papa” who always supported his grandchildren. He always attended every sporting event they had no matter how far he would have to travel. He looked forward to family vacations knowing he would get to spend quality time with his family. He was always only one phone call away when anyone needed anything. In recent years Jon became a great-grandfather to four great-grandbabies who he loved tremendously.

He is lovingly survived by his wife Jacquie (Greenwald) of 57 years; his son, Jon Jr..; his grandchildren, Briana and her husband Arune Aird, Caleb Delano, Chloe Delano and Brandon Carbone and his wife Breanna; his great-grandchildren, Azaiah, Ashton, Arabella Aird and Clay Carbone; and his two goddaughters, Jamie and Carrie.

He leaves behind his brothers Douglas and his wife Kitty, Raymond, Joseph, Lawrence; and many nieces, nephews; and cousins.

He was predeceased by both of his parents; and brothers Tim, Leroy, Dennis and Robert.

There will be a Celebration of his life in the Spring of 2023 in Portland.

Donations can be made to a charity of your choice in Jon’s name.
