SCARBOROUGH — Several holiday events are coming soon to Scarborough.

First up is the Santa in the Park drive-through on Dec. 3, at 6 to 7:30 p.m. Scarborough Community Services, Police, and Fire departments with local groups and businesses will welcome Santa to town. The route starts by the Scarborough Public Library and makes its way through the municipal and school campus to Memorial Park; Santa and Mrs. Claus are there to greet everyone. Groups and businesses will hand out goodies along the route. Saco and Biddeford Savings will be there as the presenting sponsor this year.

Scarborough Rotary does a food drive for the food pantry, so many cars come through with non-perishable food items or money to donate.

“Police, fire, public works are all represented at the event and usually kind of decorate their vehicles and are out there waving to everybody,” said Nicole Hall, Operations and Special Events manager for Scarborough Community Services Department. “And of course, our department is right down by Memorial Park and Santa and Mrs. Claus. We generally have some people in costumes, we have a couple elves that pass out candy canes or some sort of goodie. There is entertainment along the entire route.”

The Community Services Department is asking people to not queue up earlier than 5:45 p.m.

“It’s a good event,” said Hall. “The event runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and of course it’s free for anybody that would like to partake in that event. We encourage people to be festive, we’ll see some families that dress up in their jammies, and that’s more than welcome.”

On Friday, Dec. 16, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., there is a gingerbread event. The event is held at the community services hub at 418 Paine Road. People must sign-up prior to the event and the cost is $20 per gingerbread house. “Families can come here and decorate, so they can leave the mess to us and not have it in their homes,” said Hall. There will be music, refreshments, and crafts as well that families can participate in.
