Regarding the Nov. 20 Fraught Fossel Fibs, I am astounded that the Telegram allowed the publication of this column, rife with innuendo and bald misrepresentation, not to mention lack of logical thought progression.

In this column, Jim Fossel says mail-in ballots somehow give Democrats an advantage, implying that getting votes in early influences outcomes. Ranked-choice voting and clean elections are said to be “so-called reforms” that are “difficult … to get rid of.” Sour grapes. One day a Republican will benefit. He doesn’t like the deluge of political mailings, though he doesn’t mention the root of this (Citizens United). He implies that Democrats are responsible for recruiting the many underqualified Republican candidates who went down to defeat recently.

To counter this, he suggests Republicans “(boost) liberal unenrolled candidates, running moderate conservatives as independents and recruiting flawed candidates for the Democratic nomination … .” Will Republicans pretend to be Democrats in an effort to recruit said Democratic candidates?

Fossel uses “unenrolled” to refer to Democrats, but “independent” to refer to Republicans. Interestingly, “unenrolled” means “independent” – like Angus King.

Fossel says it is “foolish to let them get away with it.” “Them” means Democrats. “It” seems to be some addled conspiracy.
