Pamela Craven

WESTBROOK – Pamela Craven passed away on Nov. 18, 2022 after a brief illness. She was born on Dec. 11, 1935. She was born to the late Cyril and Kathleen Rayner of Peterborough, England.

Pam moved to the United States in 1956 and raised her family primarily in Maine where she married Theodore R. Craven (Ted) who passed away in 2015 after 47 years of marriage. Pam and Ted owned and operated the Towne-Lyne Restaurant in Gray, Maine for 25 years until their retirement in 1997. Retirement was short-lived as Pam was restless and returned to work at Macy’s Department store for another 20+ years until the Covid shutdown encouraged a second retirement.

Pam was happiest when she was with her children and their families. The family property on Little Sebago Lake was where her flock gathered. Sharing Little Sebago with her dear friends at Brydon Farms in Westbrook became a 4th of July tradition where they enjoyed food, fireworks and friendship.

Pamela stayed true to her British roots, even keeping a detectable British accent despite her 60+ years in America. Tea time every day at 3:00 p.m. and an English Trifle at Christmas were just two of her English traditions which will be carried on by those whose lives she shaped and who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her brother, Victor (Jim) and his wife Susan, brother-in-law, Joel Craven; her devoted daughters, Carrie Craven, Teresa Craven, Debra Craven Lavoie and her husband Mark, her son Steven Craven and his former wife Rolande; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pam was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Ivan, her sister-in-law, Eunice Craven, as well as her first husband Howard (Jack) Craven, with whom she had four children.

A Celebration of Life event will take place on Dec. 11, 2022, which would have been her 87th birthday, at Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland Maine. Visitation from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with a service at 2 p.m.
