Top-seeded Oceanside held off a second-half comeback by fourth-seeded Medomak Valley to earn a 51-42 win Tuesday night in a Class B South boys’ basketball semifinal at the Portland Expo.

The Mariners (19-1) will take on Yarmouth in the regional final at 3:45 p.m. Friday at the Expo.

It was Oceanside’s third win this season against Medomak (14-6) after victories of five points in an opener and 19 points late in the regular season. This one looked to be one-sided early when the Mariners opened a 20-10 lead after one quarter and 32-23 at the half.

But the Panthers, going inside despite a height disadvantage, kept closing the gap and pulled within 37-35 with 7:15 to play. Oceanside countered with an 8-2 run, and with a little more than a minute left, the Mariners led 45-37.

Alex Collins scored 16 points, Cohen Galley added 12 and Carter Galley had 11 for Oceanside.

Jaiden Starr and Gabe Lash each scored nine points for the Panthers, and Kory Donlin had eight.

The defending Class C state champions will face top-seed North Yarmouth Academy in the semifinals on Friday.

While many teams struggle in tournament openers at the ACC because of the wide-open space behind the baskets, there were no adjustments needed for Hall-Dale.

“It’s an advantage, because we play here so much,” Madore said. “It’s our home court, basically. With the fans and the support that comes, and coming here again this year, we were more prepared. We just knew what to do.”

Amanda Trepanier added 15 points and had her shooting touch from the opening tip. She scored the opening field goal on a baseline drive and followed that 28 seconds later with a pull-up jumper. She finished with six in the quarter, and Hall-Dale led 14-9.

Trepanier then scored twice in transition off Richmond turnovers during a 12-5 run to begin the second quarter.

“Our transition is something we have on other teams,” Trepanier said. “We’re all very dynamic and we can all run the floor and finish our layups most of the time.”

With Richmond’s Izzy Stewart in foul trouble, Madore took advantage of a significant gap in the heart of the Bobcats’ defense, and Hall-Dale extended its lead to 38-19 at halftime.

Kara Briand scored 11 points for Richmond, while Lila Viselli had 10.

GIRLS’ STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Oceanside junior Maddie Ripley, coming off making history as the first girl in Maine to win an open state championship, backed up her Class B 106-pound title by winning the girls’ 107-pound crown, beating Mt. Blue freshman Brooklynn Webber, 14-4, in the final.

Layla Purcell, a sophomore at Mt. Ararat, won all three of her matches by pin, including beating Paige Stephenson of Massabesic in 20 seconds in the final of the 114-pound division, which had nine wrestlers – the most of any weight class.

“It takes a lot of dedication. Wrestling to me is not just a winter sport,” Purcell said. “When I work out in the spring, it’s for wrestling. It’s to get better.”

Noble freshman Hannah Perro won the 100-pound division with a pair of pins. Perro was 25-14 for Noble’s Class A championship team during the regular season but was not able to crack the postseason roster.

“I was really looking forward to this tournament, and for the past two weeks I’ve just been preparing myself at practice, making sure I work hard,” Perro said.

The 126-pound final went to overtime, with Jocelyn Parlin taking a 10-7 win against Delanie Rector of Morse.

York senior Alissa Caltagirone won the six-wrestler 138-pound division, stopping Molly Sipple of Piscataquis, 16-4.

Mt. Blue had five girls place in the top three, led by champions Grace Allen (120) and Kendall Foster (165).

Other winners were Mya Moran of Bucksport (132), Abby Glidden of Massabesic (145), Grace Jean of Caribou (185) and Kloee Moore of Old Town (235).
