BASKETBALL
Theo Maledon scored 28 points and the Greensboro Swarm snapped the Maine Celtics five-game winning streak with a 122-110 win Saturday night in an NBA G League game in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Jalen Crutcher added 21 points, while James Bouknight had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Greensboro. Bryce McGowens scored 19 points.
Luka Samanic had 27 points, while Tony Snell recorded 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Celtics. Kamar Baldwin also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with eight assists. Denzel Valentine added 19 points.
HOCKEY
ECHL: The Idaho Steelheads jumped out to a three-goal lead and then scored in the final minute of the third period to beat the Maine Mariners, 5-4, in Boise, Idaho.
Owen Headrick and Ty Pelton-Byce scored in the first period and Justin Misiak in the second to give Idaho a 3-0 lead. Maine rallied to tie it on goals by Reid Stefanson, Mitchell Fossier and Chase Zieky. Misiak gave the Steelheads the lead back before Patrick Shea tied it again. Justin Ducharme then scored a power-play goal with 17 seconds left.
GOLF
PGA TOUR: Chris Kirk battled his way to a 4-under round of 66 at the Honda Classic, putting him at 13-under 197 for the week and giving him a two-shot lead over Eric Cole (66) through three rounds at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Cole stayed in the mix with his second consecutive round of 66.
Justin Suh holed out from the fairway for an eagle on the par-4 12th, and is alone in third at 10 under. He shot even-par 70 on Saturday.
Shane Lowry (65) is 9 under, and right in the mix after having a chance to win the Honda last year until the 72nd hole. He’s tied with Ben Taylor (69).
EUROPEAN TOUR: Yannik Paul’s lead at the Hero Indian Open in New Delhi was trimmed from five shots to one after the third round of the European tour event.
Paul, who shot a 1-under 71 to move to 11 under overall, is one ahead of fellow German Marcel Siem.
Siem birdied his last two holes for a 67 that put him in the final group on Sunday as he goes in search of his fifth European tour title — and first since 2014.
LPGA: Thai rookie Natthakritta Vongtaveelap shot a bogey-free 64 to grab a four-stroke lead over fellow countrywoman Atthaya Thitikul after round three of the US$1.7 million LPGA Thailand in Pattaya, Thailand.
The 20-year-old Vongtaveelap began with an eagle and went on to notch six birdies, including three in a row from the 16th, to finish on 20-under-par-196 in front of thousands of jubilant home fans at the Siam Country Club.
LIV: Talor Gooch made a 4-foot birdie putt on his final hole to tie Peter Uihlein for the lead in a LIV Golf season debut in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico that looks to be an Oklahoma State alumni reunion.
Uihlein was in the lead for most of Saturday at El Camaleon until a bogey-birdie-bogey finish led to a 5-under 66. Gooch played bogey-free, ending his round with an approach to short range on the par-4 first hole.
They were at 9-under 133, one shot ahead of Charles Howell III, who played for the Cowboys more than a decade earlier. Howell opened with three straight birdies and closed with a birdie for a 66.
TENNIS
DUBAI CHAMPIONSHIP: Top-ranked Iga Swiatek was upset by Barbora Krejcikova 6-4, 6-2 in the final in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Krejcikova closed the tournament by beating the top three players in the WTA rankings: No. 3 Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals, No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals, then Swiatek. No. 8 Daria Kasaktina was also overcome in the second round.
QATAR OPEN: Daniil Medvedev won the Qatar Open when he defeated Andy Murray 6-4, 6-4 in a final matchup of former No. 1s in Doha, Qatar.
Medvedev converted fast starts in each set. He reached 4-1 in the first and 3-1 in the second.
SOCCER
MLS: Henry Kessler scored in the 89th minute and Djordje Petrovic made four saves to lead the New England Revolution to a 1-0 victory over Charlotte FC in a season opener in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Kessler’s winner was unassisted.
The Revolution outshot Charlotte 15-14, with a 5-4 edge in shots on goal.
Pablo Sisniega had four saves for Charlotte.
The two teams split two matches last season, with both clubs winning at home.
• Walker Zimmerman and Jacob Shaffelburg scored and Nashville SC defeated New York City FC 2-0 in Nashville, Tennessee in the first game of the Major Soccer League season.
Zimmerman scored following a free kick after Fafa Picault centered the ball in front of the goal in the 34th minute for a 1-0 lead.
Shaffelburg’s goal came in the 80th minute off an assist from Hany Mukhtar.
ENGLAND: Erling Haaland scored a record 27th goal in the Premier League to help Manchester City see off Bournemouth 4-1 and stay on the shoulder of Arsenal in the title race.
• Danny Ings scored twice on his first start for West Ham as the team climbed out of the relegation zone with a 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest.
• Ollie Watkins scored for the fifth successive match as Aston Villa beat Everton 2-0 to end Sean Dyche’s 100% home record and drop his team back into the relegation zone.
• Junior Firpo scored the only goal as new manager Javi Gracia launched his Leeds reign in style with a win over fellow struggler Southampton.
• Arsenal maintained its place atop the Premier League by beating Leicester 1-0 thanks to Gabriel Martinelli’s goal early in the second half.
AUTO RACING
NASCAR XFINITY: NASCAR postponed the Xfinity Series race at Fontana to Sunday night because of steady rain at Auto Club Speedway.
Practice and qualifying sessions for both weekend races at Fontana had already been canceled because of consistent, heavy rain from an extraordinary Southern California storm.
