Scarborough Community Services is hosting its Spring Passport Day on Saturday, March 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event is aimed at helping people outside of the normal work/school week, which can limit individuals and families from passport processing.
“For most acceptance facilities in this area, most acceptance days and times are during the week, and during the school day,” said Nicole Hall, operations and events manager at Scarborough Community Services. “We usually try to do one to two Saturday acceptance events because we know that it works for people that work that have families and are busy, so we recognize that need and try to accommodate it the best we can.”
Another passport day occurs in the fall. The event started in 2013, and during the last few years, there has been a passport day in both the spring and the fall.
“So typically in the past, the US Department of State, who is the governing body for passports, had a US passport day and it typically was in March, so that was what we would always align ours to,” Hall explained. “But over the years we’ve noticed the need for an additional time, and as an acceptance facility we literally can have these special out-of-scheduled times whenever we want, and so we decided to add one in to the fall time.”
The event will be in the Community Services Hub at 418 Payne Road. Staff will be present for helping with passport-related needs, including renewals and new applications.
No pre-registration is required; walk-in visits are accepted. The service is open to everyone, not just residents from Scarborough. Visitors must come with all of the required documentation, checks, and passport photos.
