LEWISTON — A 10-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle Tuesday night while trying to cross the street on a snowmobile, officials said.
The boy was driving an older model Skidoo near 1876 Lisbon St. when he was hit by a vehicle, according to Lewiston police Lt. Derrick St. Laurent.
The boy was transported to the hospital for observation, but there were no apparent serious injuries, said St. Laurent.
The boy will likely be found at fault for the accident, St. Laurent said, but Lewiston Police Department will be handing the incident over to the Maine Warden Service, which handles all snowmobile accidents.
Maine Warden Service Sgt. Kyle Hladik said in a call that local officials were handling the scene and Wardens would file a crash report.
The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. with dispatch sending first responders to the scene for reports of a boy with a possible leg injury. According to dispatch chatter a short time later, a 76-year-old witness to the accident claiming to be the boy’s grandmother required medical attention for shortness of breath.
