A 10-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning while trying to board a school bus in South Portland.
The elementary school student was hit near Evans and Hill streets by a South Portland High School student, who police said was driving an SUV.
He was transported to Maine Medical Center on Wednesday with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Police charged the girl with “Passing a Stopped School Bus with Flashing Lights,” a Class E offense, according to a statement by city spokesperson Shara Dee. The high school student told police she did not see the boy crossing Evans Street and did not see the flashing school bus stop sign. The high school student had an intermediate driver’s license.
South Portland emergency responders administered aid to the child.
