The spring scholarship drive is shaping up as The Old Orchard Alumni Association starts its fundraising drive for the scholarship fund.

The OOB Alumni Association is looking for former basketball players, both male and female, to play in the Alumni Classic Basketball Game on Friday, March 17 starting at 6 p.m.. Tee shirts, donated by Brady Screenprint and Seacoast RV, will be provided.

Players are asked to sign in at the Lord Conference Room and reminded that alumni players are asked “to pay to play” since this is a fundraiser for scholarships, donation to the winning class for foul shots, and donations to both high school basketball teams.

Come and see the State Champion girls team in action as well as the highly seeded in the tournament boys team.

There will be a door prize from admission tickets and a 50/50 winner. There will also be T-shirts for sale. The admission cost is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and students. Alumni players wishing to play should email Sharri MacDonald at smacdonald@maine.rr.com.

In addition to the fundraiser basketball game the alumni association will host its annual spring dance, another fundraising event, that welcomes all of southern Maine on Saturday, April 1, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Duffy’s Tavern and Grill in Old Orchard. Mark Andrews, former local wedding and radio DJ comes out of retirement once again and keeps the dance floor hopping for three hours. Ticket sales are already brisk. Get tickets at Brady’s Screenprint in Biddeford, Ira Honda in Saco, or MacDonald’s Garage in Old Orchard Beach, or by calling at 423-2975. Hundreds of dollars in door prizes, 50/50 raffle, cash bar and a fun-filled evening. The cos is $10. Doors open at 6. This dance is open to the public and fans and parents of the Lady Seagull’s State Championship basketball team are especially welcome.
