Thank you for publishing Glenn Jordan’s important story last Sunday (“Cultural immersion has deeper means at South Portland High School,” March 12).

As I move through our community, I witness ordinary folks like Coach Green and Coach Hurley performing acts of kindness almost everyday. These folks do this with the sole motivation of helping out in their particular way – in this case, by teaching swimming.

How about this from the article? “Gretchen McCloy was able to get swimsuits, caps and towels … Hurley took care of the goggles and a lap swimmer paid the entrance fees for 15 students.” Amazing! That is a community coming together for a victory in which everyone wins.

To that anonymous lap swimmer, bravo. You’ve inspired me (and many others, I’m sure).

Keep swimming!
