KENNEBUNKPORT – Verne E. “Woody” Bodwell, Jr., 77, a resident of Kennebunkport, died Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at his residence after a brief illness.

Woody was born in Providence, R.I. on March 30, 1945 and was the son of Verne E. and M. Alberta (Snow) Bodwell, Sr. He was a graduate of Kennebunk High School, class of 1963.

In his early years, he worked for the Kennebunkport Police Department, as well as an EMT for Bibber Ambulance in the 1970s and ’80s. He also worked at Pratt and Whitney in North Berwick for many years, then at Fiber Materials in Biddeford, before retiring from General Dynamics.

Woody was a member of the Arundel Lodge in Kennebunkport for 50 years. He enjoyed repairing computers, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

He was predeceased by his wife, Diane A. (Demers) Bodwell; and his brother, Dale Bodwell.

Woody is survived by his son, Verne E. “Chip” Bodwell, III and his wife Maggie of Arundel, stepson, Paul Roy of Biddeford, stepdaughters Crystal Roberts of Old Orchard Beach and Cheryl Means of Dover, N.H.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 3 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk, ME 04043. A Masonic Service will take place at 6:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4 at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco where he will be laid to rest beside his wife.
