As many as 30 people representing the Nationalist Social Club – a white supremacist propaganda group – marched through downtown Portland on Saturday.

The group of 20 to 30 people marched through Old Port, Monument Square and at City Hall, according to Portland Police, who said they monitored the event and made no arrests.

Some minor skirmishes broke out along the group’s march, but police said they received no official complaints or reports of serious injuries.

The Nationalist Social Club, or NSC, is an extremist group formed in early 2020 in Massachusetts that has had a presence in Maine for more than two years. The group embraces racist tropes spread by Adolf Hitler’s Nazi party, targets Jewish people and non-whites, and seeks to create an underground resistance group.

Members of NSC also apparently participated in the Jan. 6, 2020, riot at the U.S. Capitol building, according to images posted in a public online chatroom. In January, former NSC member and Portland resident Andrew Hazelton was sentenced to five years in prison for possession of child pornography.
