A crash involving a 10-passenger van on Interstate 295 north of Portland snarled the evening commute Thursday.

State police said the crash occurred northbound on the highway near mile marker 13 and traffic was stopped as wreckers cleared the cars from the road.

A state police spokesperson said five of the 10 people in the van suffered minor injuries, but she had no other details of the crash.

The crash occurred around 5 p.m. and traffic was backed up for miles while wreckers removed the vehicles from the highway. The spokeswoman said traffic was flowing normally within a couple of hours.
