SOUTH PORTLAND — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has leased office space at 707 Sable Oaks Drive to open a Vet Center to provide community-based counseling services to eligible veterans and active-duty service members and their families.
The 5,300-square-foot space must be renovated to VA specifications before the center opens in May 2024, according to The Boulos Co., the property owner’s representative.
The location, off Running Hill Road and near the Maine Mall, was selected because it’s on a public bus route and close to other amenities, Boulos said.
Maine currently has Vet Centers in Bangor, Caribou, Lewiston, Portland and Springvale.
The centers provide a wide range of social and psychological services, including individual, group, marriage and family counseling for trauma, grief and transition to civilian life.
