Blackrock Farm in Kennebunkport is hosting a free workshop on designing container plantings that are not only beautiful to humans, but to pollinators, too. The event is scheduled for 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 20.

Helene Lewand, landscape designer and owner, will demonstrate how to combine plants into containers that are not just attractive, but attract the bees, butterflies, and insects that provide the pollination needed by plants and nature as a whole.

People may attend simply to watch and listen or they can bring a pot (larger is best) to create their own container planting. Pots and plants will be available for sale at the farm. Blackrock will supply potting soil and, if needed, help gardeners load completed pots into their vehicle.

The workshop is sponsored by the Conservation Commissions of Kennebunkport and Kennebunk as part of their ongoing efforts to build a better environment for pollinators throughout the region.

The free workshop is open to everyone, rain or shine. Blackrock Farm is located at 293 Goose Rocks Road, Kennebunkport.
