Scarborough and Cape Elizabeth have changed the operating hours of their respective town halls.

Scarborough Town Hall is now open four days a week,  Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The change, according to the town website, was based partly on a survey of 300 residents that found the previous 4 p.m. closing time to be inconvenient. Another reason, the town said, was the success of four-day work weeks elsewhere.

Cape Elizabeth Town Hall will begin operating on a four-day schedule as of July 1, when it will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays. In its reasons, Cape Elizabeth said the switch would reduce the cost of utilities and maintenance, according to the town website.
