The city of South Portland will host a ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday, May 20, at a renovated park on School Street,  now named in honor of  Sgt. Jason W. Swiger.

Swiger, an Army paratrooper, died in in Iraq in 2007. He frequented the park as a child, having grown up across the street, according to a press release.

The ribbon cutting for the Sgt. Jason W. Swiger Memorial Park will take place at the park in the Ferry Village neighborhood at 9 a.m. Saturday, rain or shine.

Mayor Kate Lewis, City Councilor Richard Matthews and members of Swiger’s family will be given the opportunity to speak. The public is invited to attend.
