WATERVILLE — A Waterville woman died this week when the car she was driving on College Avenue went onto a sidewalk and then traveled across four lanes before rolling over, police said Wednesday.
Emily Marchesi, 27, was southbound in a 2016 Hyundai on College Avenue, near Cumberland Farms, when the crash occurred at about 10:45 p.m. Monday, according to Sgt. Joshua Woods of the Waterville Police Department.
Marchesi was alone in the vehicle, which was destroyed, Woods said.
“She was coming southbound on College Avenue, went up onto the sidewalk in front of Cumberland Farms and then overcorrected,” Woods said. “She went back onto the road, went across all four lanes of traffic and rolled over.”
He said the wreck remained under investigation Wednesday.
Police and fire officials responded to the scene, Woods said, and the Maine State Police conducted a reconstruction of the crash.
Cumberland Farms is at 76 College Ave., at the corner of High Street. The speed limit in that area of College Avenue is 35 mph, according to Woods.
Marchesi attended Lawrence High School in Fairfield and worked at Meridians restaurant at 166 Main St. in downtown Fairfield, according to her Facebook page. She had a 6-year-old son.
Meridians posted a tribute to Marchesi on its Facebook page Tuesday, saying: “We will be closed today due to the unexpected loss of a beloved member of our kitchen staff … Emily Marchesi, we will miss your presence and your laugh til we see you again. Our thoughts & love are being sent out to her son, Jer, her family, and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her beautiful soul.”
