Riverbank Park is the place to be this weekend for Westbrook Together Days.
The 42nd annual two-day event sponsored by the Westbrook-Gorham Community Chamber of Commerce is booked solid with family entertainment, food vendors, carnival fun, a parade and fireworks.
Organizers have been meeting since January and oiled their plans Tuesday in a final meeting to ensure everything goes off smoothly.
“I think we’re there,” Suzanne Joyce, chairperson of the event, told the American Journal. “It’s always wild.”
Together Days has drawn upward of 10,000-15,000 people to the city in past years.
Saturday’s events start with a Boy Scouts pancake breakfast in the park at 7 a.m.
Westbrook City Administrator Jerre Bryant, who has worked for the city for 21 years, according to Joyce, will be the grand marshal of the Together Days parade, which starts at 10 a.m.
“As city manager, he dedicated numerous hours well beyond his required time,” Joyce said. “Jerre’s expertise, hard work and friendly personality contributed immensely to the success Westbrook has and continues to experience.”
Westbrook Together Days is proud to honor him, she said.
Amid the scheduled activities, an antique car show at 10 a.m. is a new feature this year, Joyce said.
A time-proven popular event under a tent, the Leona Glidden auction organized by Deb Shangraw, begins at 12:30 p.m. with more than 60 items up for bid, including Red Sox tickets; a day of camp at Peaks Island Horse Camp for kids; golf for four at Riverside; and jackets, sweatshirts and fleece vests from American Roots.
“All proceeds from the auction go to the scholarships we give to the Westbrook and Gorham seniors each year,” Shangraw said.
Saturday’s lineup of entertainment features the Elite All Stars cheerleaders, 11:30 a.m.; Voodoo Cadillac Band, noon; Drouin Dance Center, 1:30 p.m.; Bonnie Edwards & The Practical Cats, 2 p.m.; Brio Dance Studio, 3:30 p.m.; Girls Just Want to Have Fun, 4 p.m.; Showtime Steve, 5:30 p.m.; American Ride, 6 p.m.; Showtime Steve, 7:30 p.m.; raffle drawings, 8 p.m.; and Eric Grant Band of New Hampshire, 8:15 p.m.
Fireworks over the Presumpscot River at 9:45 p.m. cap this year’s festival.
All that’s left is for the weather on Friday and Saturday to cooperate, Joyce said.
“Definitely cooler this weekend than last. Hopefully no rain; no rain date,” she said.
