Here’s one of the books I am reading: “Robert E. Lee and Me: A Southerner’s Reckoning with the Myth of the Lost Cause.” It’s by Ty Seidule, a retired U.S. Army brigadier general, West Point history professor and southerner. I don’t have much in common with the author but I’m struck by his later-in-life grapple with long-held beliefs. We should all be able to do that.’ PATRICIA WORTH, Belfast
