A head-on collision between a van and a motor vehicle Sunday morning injured the two drivers, killed a dog, and caused traffic delays that lasted for hours on Route 1 in Woolwich.
Witnesses told investigators that a 2021 Ford Transit delivery van owned by Cantrell Seafood of Topsham veered across Route 1 around 9:25 a.m. and collided with a 2017 Subaru Forester operated by Kristin Nawrocki, 41, of Woolwich, said Sagadahoc County Sheriff Joel Merry in a news release.
Both Nawrocki and the van’s driver, 61-year-old Shawn C. McNeill of Laughlin, Nevada – a former Bath resident – were extricated from the wreckage and taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Merry described their injuries as serious, but not life-threatening.
Nawrocki’s dog later died at an animal hospital from injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred near the intersection with Shaw Road.
Northbound traffic along Route 1 was reduced to one lane for about five hours. Southbound traffic was rerouted for several hours until the road was finally cleared at 2:30 p.m.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Merry said it was raining at the time of the collision.
