Brendan Amann is the son of Colleen and Peter Amann. Brendan was a 4-year board member of the Scarborough Key Club, serving as President his senior year. He was also a member of the National Honor Society and Boy Scouts. During all four years, he participated on the Varsity Swimming and Tennis teams, serving as co-captain of both teams his senior year. Honors and Awards that Brendan has received include the St. Michael’s College Book Award, Four-Year Varsity Letter, the President’s Volunteer Service Award, SHS Tennis MVP, Cum laude and Magna Cum Laude on the National Latin Exam, the Biliteracy Certificate in Latin, Boy Scouts Order of the Arrow and soon to be Eagle Scout. Brendan will be attending Davidson College in the fall.

Adam Bendetson is the son of Lisa and Eric Bendetson. Adam was captain of the cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track teams, broke school records in all three sports and won many awards including individual Maine and New England championship titles, the SMAA and the Maine Boys Indoor Track Athlete of the Year awards, and several State team championships. On Math Team Adam helped Scarborough win a State championship and received individual honors. Adam was a National Honor Society member and received numerous academic awards every year, including best student awards in math, science, social studies, and Spanish, the Maine Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish, AP awards, and the Williams College Book Award. This fall, Adam will attend the University of Maine, where he is enrolled in the Honors College and will study both math and computer science and will run on the track and cross-country teams.

Julia Black is the daughter of David and Pamela Black. Julia was the Vice President of Buddy System and a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, and Math Team. During all four years of high school she participated in a sport every season, including soccer, basketball, indoor and outdoor track. She served as a captain of both the soccer and outdoor track team. Honors and awards that Julia has received in high school include the Rensselaer Medal Award, United Soccer Coaches All-New England Team, Maine Soccer All-State Team, and Grade 10 Best Math Student. Julia will be attending Duke University in the fall to study biomedical engineering.

Ethan Blanche is the son of Willard and Susan Blanche. Ethan was the Treasurer of the senior class. During his four years of high school Ethan participated in the soccer and basketball programs. He was named co-captain of the basketball team in his senior year. Over the years, he has been awarded the Best Math Student Award, the Student Athlete Award, the Dartmouth Book Award, and was named Salutatorian of his class. Ethan will be attending Boston College in the fall.

Aidan Bristol is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Ian and Kelly Bristol. He was the Vice President for the Scarborough Key Club, a member of the National Honor Society, and a member of the Math Team. Aidan played soccer and baseball all four years of high school, this year serving as captain of the baseball team. Honors and awards that Aidan has received in high school include Best 9th Grade Math Student Award, AP Scholar Award, and the Harvard Book Award. Aidan will be attending the University of Virginia to study business in the fall.

Yuliya Buturlia is the daughter of Yury and Natallia Buturlia. Yuliya was a Student Representative to the School Board, President of the Environmental Club of Scarborough, and a member of National Honor Society and Math Team. During all four years of high school, she studied ballet at Maine State Ballet. Honors and awards that Yuliya has received in include first place in the Maine App Challenge 2022, sixth place in the Maine App Challenge 2023, the Princeton Book Award, Rochester Institute of Technology Computing Medal, Most Outstanding Coder in AP Computer Science, English Department Outstanding Student Overall Award Grade 11, and the Maine Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish. Yuliya is Valedictorian of her class and will be attending Northeastern University in the fall.

Varshini Chaganti is the daughter of Venu and Sudha Chaganti.Varshini was a member of the National Honor Society, the Key Club Board, the Maine Medical Center Junior Volunteer Program, and the Girl Scouts of Maine. Honors and Awards that Varshini has received in high school include University of Rochester George Eastman Book Award, The President’s Volunteer Service Award, Bettsanne Holmes Leadership Award, and the State of Maine Seal of Biliteracy. Varshini will be attending Nova Southeastern University in the fall.

Lila Durdag is the daughter of Kerem Durdag and Mary Starr. Lila Durdag was the secretary of the Environmental Club, member of the National Honor Society and Key Club. During all four years of high school she competitively danced at Scarborough Dance Center. Awards that Lila has received include the College of the Atlantic Book Award, Outstanding Achievement in Spanish, and AP Scholar with Honor Award. Lila will be attending Denison University to study Environmental Studies in the fall.

Hailey Gagnon is the daughter of George and Michelle Gagnon. She has spent most of her high school years on the stage. As a lover of theater and music, Hailey has been part of ten high school performances, including Little Shop of Horrors and her most recent project, As You Like It. Hailey also spent her time playing the flute and singing in her school’s band and chorus programs. Last year, Hailey was recognized by the Phi Beta Kappa Association of Maine and will be attending the University of Maine this fall.

Stella Grondin is the daughter of Larry and Heather Grondin. Stella was the secretary of Key Club and a member of the National Honor Society and ECOS. During all four years of high school she participated in the field hockey and lacrosse programs, serving as co-captain of the field hockey team her senior year. Honors and awards that Stella has received include French Seal of Biliteracy, St. Lawrence Book Award, NEBD Outstanding Key Club Secretary, Outstanding Musicianship, and AP Scholar Award. Stella Grondin will be attending Providence College in the fall to study biology.

Emily Gurry is the daughter of Bob and Cindy Gurry. Emily was President of the Interact Club and a member throughout middle and high school, a member of the National Honor Society and the SHS Tennis team. She has danced year-round, was a member of the competition dance team at Encore Dance Company as well as an assistant dance instructor throughout all four years of high school. She has received academic awards including high honor roll every semester for 4 years, the Brandeis Book Award, Excellence in Honors Environmental Science, Excellence in French 4, Most Outstanding in Forensics, AP French Outstanding Achievement, and Excellence in AP Chemistry. Emily will be attending Loyola University Maryland in the fall majoring in Forensic Studies and Chemistry.

Collin Joyce is the son of Kevin Joyce and Kat Stratton. He participated in math team for three years, was part of the robotics team, and volunteered at Furniture Friends. Honors and awards that Collin received include the Yale Book Award, Excellence in AP Physics and Robotics as well as State Champion in Robotics. Collin will be attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute for Aeronautical and Aerospace engineering in the fall.

Anna Kavanagh is the daughter of Bernie and Dana Kavanagh. Anna was a member of the Buddy System, the Unified Basketball Team, and the National Honor Society. During all four years of high school she participated in field hockey and lacrosse. She served as a captain of field hockey junior and senior year and a captain of lacrosse senior year. Honors and awards that Anna has received include the Bowdoin Book Award, Maine Field Hockey All-State Academic Team, and Excellence in Honors Chemistry and Honors Physics. Anna will be attending the University of Michigan in the fall studying biology

Agathe Laine is the daughter of Celine and Fabrice Laine. Agathe was the Lieutenant Governor of Key Club, a member of the National Honor Society, and ECOS. During all four years of high school she was a part of the volleyball and tennis teams, serving as co-captain of the volleyball team her senior year. Honors and awards that Agathe has received in include the Spanish Seal of Biliteracy, Outstanding student in French and French 3 award, the coaches award for volleyball, and the St. Thomas Book Award. Agathe Laine will be attending Bishop’s University in fall to study Business.

Madeline Leonard is the daughter of Janet and John Leonard. Madeline has participated in field hockey, lacrosse, art club, and the Gym Dandies. The honors and awards that Madeline has received include excellence in chemistry, excellence in art, and The Maine College of Art Book Award. Madeline will be attending Lafayette College in the fall.

Kate Medeiros is the daughter of Kim and Brian Medeiros. During her four years of high school she participated in Oak Hill Players theater and, the one act play. Kate played lacrosse where she served as a JV co-captain and volunteered for the youth lacrosse program. She works with dogs as a trainer/teacher at a local dog daycare. Kate’s artwork has been recognized in the Portland Museum of Art, and she participated in the Maine District 1 honor choir. She received the Clarkson University Achievement award, along with other awards recognizing her artistic abilities and academic accomplishments, specifically in history. After high school Kate plans to continue her education pursuing a career in zoology and environmental conservation.

Gillian Ocampo is the daughter of Melissa and Peter Ocampo. Gillian was the President of the National Honor Society, and a member of Key Club and Ecos Club and received the RIT Creativity Award. During high school she sailed competitively for the Southern Maine High School Sailing Team. Gillian will be attending Xavier University in the fall and there she will study nursing and theology.

Nicholas Ouellette is the son of Hollie and David Ouellette. Nicholas Ouellette was a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, and Interact Club. During all four years of high school he participated in the varsity soccer and basketball programs. Nicholas has received the SMAA Citizenship Award and the RIT Innovation and Creativity Book Award. Nicholas will be attending Virginia Tech for engineering in the fall.

Angelina Pizzella is the daughter of Nadine and Anthony Pizzella. Angelina was a four-year member of the softball team and a Captain her senior year, a member of the Sources of Strength Club, and editor of the yearbook. Honors that Angelina has received include, Smith College Book Award, Excellence in Environmental Science, Outstanding Yearbook Production (Junior), Most Outstanding Student in AP Phycology, Excellence in Physics, Outstanding Yearbook Production (Senior). Angelina will be attending Central Connecticut State University in the fall, will pursue a degree in Secondary Education and will be playing Division 1 softball for the Blue Devils.

Ethan Rasquinha is the son of Sunil Rasquinha and Rashmi Rodrigues. Ethan Rasuinha was a Captain and the Lead Coder of the Robotics Team, a member of the National Honor Society, the Math Team, and the Chess Club. Additionally, throughout all four years of high school, he has competed in the Cross Country and Track teams. Honors and Awards that Ethan Rasquinha has received include RIT Computing Medal, The Maine Seal of Biliteracy, Excellence in VEX Robotics, and multiple awards for Excellence in Computer Science and Coding. Ethan will be attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the fall.

Anita Smith is the daughter of Ann and Christian Smith. Anita has participated in numerous art programs at SHS, and recently finished a 30- foot mural inside the school’s hallways. She participated in ECOS Club, worked on set design for One Acts and has been a member of the Art Club. She also received the University of Rochester Bausch & Lomb Book Award. Anita will be attending University of New Hampshire in the fall.

Sofia Tierney is the daughter of Ryan and Danyelle Tierney. Sofia was a leader of the schools Sources of Strength group, as well as treasurer of the Model United Nations club. She was also an active member of the National Honor Society, Key club, and Interact club. Sofia also served on the district’s Social Emotional Learning Committee her junior and senior year, and was a part of the student group SEED (Students Empowered To End Dependency). Throughout all 4 years Sofia played soccer, and her final 2 years participated in both indoor and outdoor track, serving as co-captain outdoors her senior year. Awards and honors Sofia has received are the Saint Michael’s College Book Award, and the Sources of Strength Award. Sofia will be attending Fordham University in the fall.

Alexia Vyas is the daughter of Rev. Ajay and Julie Vyas. Alexia completed a dual enrollment program between Scarborough High School and Southern Maine Community College during her junior and senior year. In this program, she achieved the Dean’s list at SMCC all 4 semesters and is eligible to graduate with her associate’s degree this summer and she also received the St. Anselm’s Book Award. Alexia plans to attend the University of Southern Maine as a junior next year with the goal of graduating with her bachelor’s degree in 2 years and entering the United States Air Force. Outside of her academic achievements, Alexia enjoys Brazilian jiu jitsu, taekwondo, and music. She currently serves as a vocalist on the worship team at First Light South Portland Church and has been honored as an outstanding high school female in the state of Maine. Alexia has also enjoyed volunteering with children at her church and serving at Lighthouse School and Childcare Center in South Portland.
