Lucille Anette Leighton

MOUNT DORA, Fla. – Lucille Anette Leighton, 84, of Mount Dora, Fla., passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 10, 2023, surrounded by loved ones after complications from heart failure.

Lucille was born on Oct. 26, 1938, to Henry and Aline Lavigne in Westbrook and was the youngest sibling with five brothers. Her mother passed away when she was very young, so she was raised by her Aunt Donalda or “Memere” and Ovide Lavigne. She grew up with her cousins Larry, Paul, Pauline, Cecile and Fran, who she considered her siblings.

Lucille graduated from Westbrook High School in 1956, where she met the love of her life, Wil Leighton. She referred to him as “her rock and the reason why my life has been so wonderful,” and they spent the next 67 years together. Over the years they enjoyed traveling, exploring new places and dining experiences across the country and Europe. They especially loved their family and got so much joy spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lucille had an immense passion for music and singing and has been known to spontaneously join a singer and perform a duo or solo. She had a designated “music” room in her house where you could hear her singing and playing her organ or piano to her favorite tunes. She loved her karaoke machine and would invite her grandchildren to sing and play with her, which she treasured. She would light up any room with her humor, playfulness, and bright smile, which will be deeply missed.

Lucille was predeceased by her mother and father; her five brothers, Jack, Conrad, Donald, Marcel and Harvey Lavigne; and her daughter, Susan Harvey.

She is survived by her loving husband, Wilfred Leighton; her son, Brian Leighton and his wife Kathy, her daughter Cindy Wood and her husband Lou; six grandchildren, Ashley and Matt Foye, Jason and Scott Leighton, Kyle and Evan Wood; and four great-grandchildren, Piper and Dexter Leighton, and Mallory and Myles Foye.

Visiting hours will be held 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the Westbrook chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 35 Church St., Westbrook. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 5, at St. Anthony Church, 268 Brown St., Westbrook with a reception immediately following in the church hall. Following the reception, a private burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. at St. Hyacinth Cemetery in Westbrook.
