BREWER – Virginia Frances (Coffin) Boothby, 93, of Brewer, passed away Sept. 17, 2023. She was born in Portland, August 16, 1930, the daughter of Ernest and Florence (MacLearn) Coffin.
Virginia graduated from Portland High School in 1948 and went on to study nursing at the Maine Eye and Ear Infirmary, earning her RN license in 1951. She married Richard Boothby Sept. 3, 1952, and they had three sons, Lawrence, Michael and James. Following Richard’s passing in 1979, she worked for the Bangor School Department as a resource room aid and later taught English as a second language until her retirement.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard; her parents; sister Esther Coffin; and many relatives and friends.
Virginia is survived by sons Lawrence Boothby and wife Denise, Michael Boothby and wife Kim, James Boothby and wife Eileen; sister Roberta Applebee and husband Roy; granddaughters Angela Michaud and husband Travis, Jennifer Lavin and husband James, and Samantha Lee and husband James; great-grandchildren Tyler and Reid Michaud, Brianna and Ella Lavin; nieces Judy Schnell and Jan Puritan and their families; nephews David Boothby, Robert Boothby, Richard Applebee, Robert Applebee, and Roy Applebee and their families.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 1048 State St., Bangor. Please meet at the Superintendent’s Lodge at 12:45 p.m. for an escort to the graveside.
