Niclas Füllkrug and Jamal Musiala scored three minutes apart early in the second half, and Germany rallied to beat the United States 3-1 in a men’s soccer exhibition Saturday in East Hartford, Connecticut.

Christian Pulisic put the 11th-ranked U.S. ahead in the 27th minute, but İlkay Gündogan tied the score in the 39th. Füllkrug got the go-ahead goal in the 58th, and Musiala padded the margin in the 61st as No. 15 Germany won its first match since Julian Nagelsmann replaced Hansi Flick as coach.

MANCHESTER UNITED: Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is withdrawing his offer to buy storied soccer club Manchester United, a person with knowledge of the process told The Associated Press.

Along with British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, the Qatari banker was one of only two bidders to publicly declare their intention to buy out United’s owners, the Glazer family.

NASCAR XFINITY: Riley Herbst scored the first NASCAR national series win of his career in dominating fashion at his home track on Saturday, leading 103 of 201 laps to win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Herbst, 24, has been plugging away in NASCAR since 2018. The Xfinity win Saturday was Herbst’s first NASCAR national series win in 154 starts across the three series. He beat Xfinity Series championship leader John Hunter Nemechek by nearly 15 seconds.

GOLF

ANDY BEAN, an 11-time PGA Tour winner and three times a runner-up in the majors, died Saturday after complications from a double lung replacement surgery, the PGA Tour said. He was 70.

Bean had lung replacement surgery in September. His friend, Alan Pope, posted on Facebook at the time that Bean’s lungs had been damaged from COVID-19. His 11 victories covered 1977 to 1986. Bean also played on Ryder Cup teams in 1979 and 1987.

SPANISH OPEN: Matthieu Pavon maintained his lead and enters the final round with a two-stroke advantage.

The No. 3-ranked Jon Rahm (67) is tied for 34th and nine shots back as he struggles to defend his title won last year when Pavon finished runner-up.

LIV: Brooks Koepka played bogey-free for an 8-under 62, building a three-shot lead in King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia, as he looks to win on Saudi Arabian soil for the second straight year.

TEL AVIV OPEN: The Tel Aviv Open, scheduled for next month, has been canceled because of the Israel-Hamas war.

The ATP men’s tour said the decision was made after consultation with security experts and with the safety of players and fans in mind. The event was scheduled for early November.

SHANGHAI MASTERS: Seventh-ranked Andrey Rublev advanced to the final by beating Grigor Dimitrov, 7-6 (7), 6-3.

He will face Hubert Hurkacz, who had a dominant 6-3, 6-4 win over Sebastian Korda.

KOREA OPEN: Jessica Pegula advanced to the final in Seoul by beating Yanina Wickmayer, 6-4, 6-3.

Fourth-ranked Pegula held off a late challenge from the Belgian to seal the win and will face No. 128 Yuan Yue in the final. The 25-year-old from China rallied to beat Emina Bektas 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-2. It will be Yuan’s first tour final and she will also be the first Chinese player to contest a Korean Open final.

HONG KONG OPEN: Leylah Fernandez advanced to her first final in 19 months after a 6-2, 7-5 victory over fifth-seeded Anna Blinkova.

In the other semifinal, Katerina Siniakova eased past sixth-seeded Martina Trevisan, 6-4, 6-2. Siniakova has four career titles, the most recent coming in July at Hamburg.

BASEBALL

MLB: Houston reliever Kendall Graveman won’t be on the AL Championship Series roster against the Texas Rangers because of right shoulder discomfort.

The right-hander missed the Division Series but had hoped that he could recover in time for the next round.
