Four players scored as top-ranked Scarborough began defense of its Class A title with a 5-0 win over No. 8 South Portland in a South quarterfinal on Tuesday in Scarborough.
The Red Storm (14-1) advance to the semifinals and face No. 5 Cheverus on Friday.
Scarborough took the lead when Lana Djuranovic scored in the 10th minute. Djuranovic added a goal on a corner kick, then Paige Garlock scored to make it 3-0 at the half.
Talia Borelli and Maggie Booth added second-half goals.
Amelia Burton-Fowler had 17 saves for the Red Riots (8-6-2).
GORHAM 3, SANFORD 2: Julia Reed scored with 12 seconds left as the second-seeded Rams (12-1-2) rallied to beat the seventh-seeded Spartans (10-5-1) in a Class A South quarterfinal in Gorham.
Gorham advances to the semifinals to face Windham.
Piper Forgues added a goal and an assist for the Rams. Kaitlyn Nichols tied it for Gorham with 13 minutes left.
CAPE ELIZABETH 3, WELLS 0: Addie Miller scored in the first half and Noelle Mallory scored twice in the second half as the No. 2 Capers (13-2) beat the seventh-seeded Warriors (8-6-2) in the Class B South quarterfinals in Cape Elizabeth.
The Capers advance to the semifinals to face Greely.
GREELY 1, YORK 0: Abby Lennox scored in overtime to lift the third-seeded Rangers (8-5-2) past the sixth-seeded Wildcats (6-7-2) in a Class B South quarterfinal in Cumberland.
Greely advances to face No. 2 Cape Elizabeth in the semifinals on Saturday.
YARMOUTH 2, MORSE 0: Aine Powers and Lilah Pernal both scored in the first half as the top-seeded Clippers (13-1-1) blanked the eighth-seeded Shipbuilders (6-10) in a B South quarterfinal in Yarmouth.
Regan Sullivan made one save for Yarmouth, which advances to face either No. 5 Lake Region or No. 4 Freeport in the semifinals.
Haley Kirkpatrick had 12 saves for Morse.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 1, TEMPLE ACADEMY 0: Tessa Ferguson knocked in a shot deflected to her by Olivia McInnis in the 14th minute, giving the fifth-seeded Gulls (6-9) the edge over the fourth-seeded Bereans (7-8) in a Class D South quarterfinal in Waterville.
Sarah Davis made three saves for OOB, which advances to a semifinal matchup against top-seeded St. Dominic in Auburn on Friday.
Karissa DeWitt had four saves in goal for Temple.
WAYNFLETE 4, TRAIP ACADEMY 1: Lucy Hart scored four times and the third-ranked Flyers (10-5) beat the sixth-seeded Rangers (3-10-2) in a Class C South quarterfinal in Portland.
Waynflete will face Maranacook in the semifinals.
Traip scored on a free kick by Avery Bouffard with 30 minutes left, but Hart answered three minutes later.
Lily Stuart stopped 13 shots for Traip Academy.
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 3, SACOPEE VALLEY 0: Lyla Casey, Natasha Godfrey and Hayden Wienckowski each scored to lift the top-seeded Panthers (11-1-3) over the eighth-seeded Hawks (2-12-1) in a Class C South quarterfinal in Yarmouth.
Emily Robbins and Caroline Matusovich each had an assist for NYA, which meets fourth-seeded Hall-Dale in a semifinal matchup at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Brianna Eastman tallied 12 saves in goal for Sacopee Valley.
FIELD HOCKEY
BIDDEFORD 1, NOBLE 0: Corinne Ramunno scored with 5:46 left in the fourth with assists from Kayla Magnant and Ayla Lagasse as the third-seeded Tigers (11-4) topped the sixth-seeded Knights (7-8) in a Class A South quarterfinal in Biddeford.
Cadence Goulet made nine saves for the Tigers, who move on to face second-seeded Gorham in a semifinal matchup on Saturday.
Trinity Valle turned aside 24 shots in net for Noble.
FREEPORT 7, GREELY 1: Emily Groves had three goals, Sophie Bradford, Lizalyn Boudreau, Ellie Foss and Liza Flower all scored once and Reed Proscia had an assist as the second-seeded Falcons (11-3-1) beat the seventh-seeded Rangers (7-8) in a Class B South quarterfinal in Freeport.
The Falcons advance to a semifinal matchup against third-seeded Lake Region on Saturday.
Anna Hendry scored in the third quarter for Greely.
ST. DOMINIC 3, SACOPEE VALLEY 0: The fourth-seeded Saints (7-8) shut out the fifth-seeded Hawks (6-6) in the Class C South quarterfinals in Auburn.
Alexyss Bairds, Madeline Andrews and Abigail Labonte scored for the Saints, who also beat Sacopee Valley in the regular season, 1-0 in double overtime. Maia Cote made on save for St. Dominic.
St. Dominic will face either No. 8 Waynflete or No. 1 Spruce Mountain in the regional semifinals.
Lily Kick had six saves for Sacopee Valley.
LAKE REGION 2, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER/NYA 0: Abigail Travis had a goal and an assist as the third-seeded Lakers (9-4-2) beat the sixth-seeded Patriots (7-6-2) in a Class B South quarterfinal in Naples.
Lake Region advances to face No. 2 Freeport in the semifinals on Saturday.
Mia Letarte also scored for Lake Region and Emma Nadeau added an assist. Reign Hart stopped three shots for the Lakers.
Samantha Poulin had 14 saves for Gray-New Gloucester/NYA.
BOYS’ SOCCER
YARMOUTH 5, FRYEBURG 1: Luis Cardoso scored three goals as the top-seeded Clippers (13-2) beat the eight-seeded Raiders (11-5) in a Class B South quarterfinal in Yarmouth.
Yarmouth advances to face the winner of Wednesday’s game between No. 5 Greely and No. 4 York in the semifinals.
Zach Turkel scored early in the first to give Yarmouth the lead. Cardoso added two first-half goals and Adam McLaughlin also scored in the first for the Clippers. Cardoso scored his third goal in the second half. Ben Flowerdew, Justin Dawes, George Brown and Matt Gautreau each had an assist.
Hugo Sala Mareca scored for Fryeburg.
Ian O’Connor and Julian Gebhardt combined for six saves for Yarmouth, while Myles Willimen and Aiden Clement combined for six saves for Fryeburg.
BREWER 1, BRUNSWICK 0: Cade McKenney scored as the lift the sixth-seeded Witches (6-7-2) past the third-seeded Dragons (8-6-1) in a Class A North quarterfinal in Brunswick.
Brewer advances to face the winner of Wednesday’s quarterfinal between No. 7 Skowhegan and No. 2 Camden Hills in the semifinals.
