Two men have been arrested in connection with robberies at a bank in Waterboro and a store in Buxton.

The first suspect, 41-year-old Timothy Riley of Westbrook, was arrested Wednesday night, hours after he allegedly robbed the Gorham Savings Bank in Waterboro at gunpoint. Police say he also robbed Main Street Variety in Buxton last week.

Kyle Allman, 37, of Hollis was arrested Thursday night and charged with robbing the Buxton store. When police searched the house where he was arrested, they found items that also connect him to the bank robbery, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

The robberies started June 7 when Riley entered Main Street Variety with a handgun and demanded the clerk give him the cash drawer, the sheriff’s office said. Police did not disclose how much money he stole. He fled the store in a car with New Hampshire license plates that was later found by Buxton police on an abandoned railroad bed.

The car had been stolen from Gorham, according to police.

York County Sheriff William King said Riley then robbed the Waterboro bank around 1 p.m. Wednesday. Several employees and one customer were in the bank at the time of the robbery, but no one was injured. The robber was given an undisclosed sum and left.

King said the suspect left the scene on a dirt bike and fled from Maine State Police in Hollis. Police used a K-9 unit from the Buxton Police Department to help track him. While searching in the woods where Riley was last seen, police found a handgun and other evidence connected to the robbery, King said.

“It appears currently that both robberies are similar to each other,” the York County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on Facebook.

Police found Riley in Hollis, but he again fled in another vehicle. He later eluded a police officer who attempted to pull him over in West Buxton. The vehicle eventually crashed on Mary Jane Road in Buxton, and two occupants, including Riley, were cornered on foot by officers.

Officers were able to arrest Riley around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. He has been charged with two counts of robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, eluding officers and a probation violation.

The sheriff’s office has not clarified whether Allman was the second occupant of the vehicle.

Allman was arrested Thursday night and charged with robbing Main Street Variety.

Allman came out of a house on George Connors Road in Hollis as the Southern Maine Special Response Team prepared to clear the location so detectives could search it. Allman was taken into custody, and during a search detectives found items they say link him to the bank robbery, including a dirt bike used during the crime.

Allman was taken to York County Jail, where bail was set at $200,000.
