Scarborough senior Lana Djuranovic, who is bound to play Division I soccer at the University of Miami in Florida, was named Thursday as Maine’s girls’ soccer Gatorade Player of the Year for the second year in a row.

Djuranovic, a brilliant tactician and playmaker, who was also named Scarborough’s Fall Athlete of the Year by The Forecaster in 2022 and 2023, scored 32 times and had five assists last fall, helping the Red Storm repeat as Class A state champion. She finished her career with a program-record 78 goals and 23 assists. Djuranovic is also a peer leader in Scarborough High School’s Sources of Strength club, which is a youth suicide prevention project, has volunteered locally as a youth soccer coach and has maintained an A average in the classroom.

“Simply put, Lana was the best player in the state for the second year in a row,” said Cheverus girls’ coach Craig Roberts. “What makes her special is that she plays in the midfield, but you can’t mark her because she’ll find the ball by moving out wide or up front or by sitting back or staying central. Her technical ability allows her to beat players one-on-one at speed with either foot and finish with either foot.”
